Les Orgues d'Ille-sur-Têt feels unexpectedly desert-like for southern France. The formations were created from clay and sand deposited in the Têt valley over millions of years, then sculpted by erosion into tall columns capped by harder material. The result is a compact landscape of ochre, cream, and rust-coloured pinnacles that changes character as the sun moves across the site. The visit follows a managed outdoor route from the reception area to the protected formations.
