The Cava di Bauxite is a striking example of an industrial landscape gradually reclaimed by nature. Mining exposed intensely coloured bauxite-rich soil, while water accumulated in the excavated basin and created a vivid green lake. The contrast between red ground, bright vegetation, and the nearby Adriatic coast makes the site one of Salento's most recognisable photographic stops. The quarry is normally visited as a short outdoor stop or combined with a longer walk or bicycle route toward Punta Palascia and the Otranto-Leuca coast. Access conditions, parking management, and path edges are informal and can change. The lake is not a designated swimming area, quarry slopes can erode, and visitors should remain on established tracks, avoid steep edges, and follow any municipal signs or temporary restrictions.
