Cirque de Mourèze is a natural sculpture garden shaped from fragile dolomitic limestone. More than seventy named rock forms rise from the dry Mediterranean vegetation, creating narrow passages and strange silhouettes that resemble animals, faces, castles, and ruined towers. The village sits directly beside the formations, making the first viewpoints surprisingly easy to reach. Visitors can choose a short Courtinals discovery loop or the full 7.5 km circuit that climbs toward the Mont Liausson ridge for views over Lake Salagou. The official full route is rated difficult, with about 422 metres of cumulative ascent and an estimated duration of 2.5 to 3 hours. The site is extremely hot in summer, so the post should recommend visiting early or late, bringing plenty of water, wearing sturdy shoes, and avoiding the full route during intense heat or after heavy rain.
